ANKARA (AA) – The Turkish Embassy in Paraguay announced the start of free and online Turkish classes for Paraguayans.

"We heard the call, we will start Turkish courses with the cooperation of @yee [Yunus Emre Foundation]. They will be free and online very soon," Ambassador Armagan Inci Ersoy said Monday on Twitter, referencing the non-profit organization that seeks to promote Turkey, its language and culture.

Ties between the two countries have been strengthened in many areas in the 18 months since the opening of bilateral relations.

Turkey recently sent medical supplies to Paraguay to help the Latin American nation's fight against the coronavirus outbreak.

Paraguay has 1,145 confirmed cases and 11 deaths, according to a running tally by US-based Johns Hopkins University. It has recorded 603 recoveries.

Turkey has delivered aid to nearly 60 countries.
