Turkish charity distributes Eid meat to 2.3M worldwide

ANKARA (AA) – Marking a major Muslim holiday, Eid al-Adha, Turkish charity group the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) has distributed meat to around 2.3 million underprivileged people in 103 countries across the world.

In a statement, the Istanbul-based charity group said 57,961 shares of Qurban (sacrificial meat) was distributed to people in refugee camps, war-torn and impoverished regions, and those struck by natural disasters.

Among the priorities were Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Somalia, Yemen, Bangladesh, Rakhine state in Myanmar, and China’s Xinjiang region.

The group also laid the foundations of various projects to improve living conditions, including mosques, wells, and training centers in the countries where IHH distributed meat, as well as offering vocational courses.

The IHH, one of Turkey's leading aid groups, also donated clothes to over 17,000 orphans in 16 countries, including Turkey.

Moreover, the foundation also sacrificed thousands of animals in northern Syria and distributed the meat to around 215,000 people in Afrin, Idlib, Aleppo, Hama, Homs and Al-Bab, Jarablus and Azaz, all regions liberated as part of Turkey’s Operation Euphrates Shield.
