Turkish Cargo makes 1st shipments from new airport

By Kaan Bozdogan and Kenan Irtak</p> <p>ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkish Cargo has completed its first domestic and international air cargo shipments from newly opened Istanbul Airport, the company said Friday.</p> <p>A consignment of Turkish flags was delivered from Istanbul to the capital Ankara and later to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the company, a division of flag carrier Turkish Airlines, said on social media.</p> <p>The first phase of the new Istanbul Airport was opened on Oct. 29. The airport has an annual capacity of 90 million passengers.</p> <p>At its full annual capacity of 200 million passengers with the completion of all four phases with six runways by 2028, Istanbul Airport is set to become a global aviation hub hosting more than 100 airlines and flights to over 300 destinations around the world.</p> <p>Turkish Airlines, founded in 1933, flies to 306 destinations in 124 countries with its fleet of more than 330 aircraft, including passenger and cargo planes.</p> <p>Turkish Cargo has been offering cargo services to more countries than any other airline in the world.
