Turkish assembly speaker meets parliamentary union head

ANKARA (AA) – Turkish Parliament Speaker Mustafa Sentop on Tuesday received Gabriela Cuevas Barron, head of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

According to the speaker's office in the capital Ankara, Sentop and Barron exchanged views on the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Sentop and Barron also discussed how the pandemic has influenced the work of world parliaments, and how they have tackled the virus, the office said.

Since it originated in China last December, the coronavirus has claimed around 851,500 lives in 188 countries and regions. The US, Brazil, and India are currently the worst-hit countries.

Nearly 25.5 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries exceeding 16.8 million, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.
