Turkey’s ruling party candidate elected Kahramanmaras mayor

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party candidate has been elected mayor of the southern province of Kahramanmaras on Sunday.</p> <p>Hayrettin Gungor bagged 325,583 votes, while main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) candidate Ali Oztunc got 140,840 votes, according to unofficial results.</p> <p>Earlier, millions of Turkish voters cast their votes in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.</p> <p> <p>* Writing by Sibel Morrow
