Turkey's poultry production up in July

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's poultry production — including eggs, slaughtered chicken and turkey, and meat — rose in July, compared to the previous month, the country's statistical authority announced on Thursday.

In July, chicken egg production in the country went up 4.4 percent compared to June, reaching 1.6 billion units, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

The institute stated that the number of slaughtered chicken and turkey reached 112 million and 631,000 units, respectively.

“The number of slaughtered chicken rose 9.7 percent in July compared with the previous month, ” it said.

“The number of the slaughtered turkey increased by 10.4 percent in July compared with the previous month, ” it added.

TurkStat said chicken meat production in July was 196,614 tons while turkey meat production was 7,332 tons.

The institute noted that chicken meat production rose 10.1 percent in July month-on-month, adding that turkey meat production rose 18.3 in July, versus the previous month.

On a yearly basis, in July, chicken egg production in the country went up 0.8 percent.

While the number of slaughtered chicken fell by 2.1 percent compared with the same month of the previous year, the chicken meat production rose 0.3 percent in the same period.

The number of slaughtered turkeys climbed 22 percent in July year-on-year, while turkey meat production rose 33 percent on a yearly basis.

The statistical authority will release the next poultry production report on Oct. 12.
