Turkey's borsa starts week with rise

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index, BIST 100, rose 621.47 points or 0.56 percent to open at 111,914.24 points on Monday.

The banking and holding indices went up 0.55 and 0.42 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices the information technology index showed the best performance with a 1.08 percent hike. Only the construction sector index showed a decline — falling by 0.07 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate increased to 3.8820 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630 GMT) Monday, compared with Friday's close at 3.8650.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also climbed to 4.5080 from 4.4990 at close on Friday.

Brent crude oil rose to $62.34 per barrel at 9.00 a.m. local time (0600 GMT) compared to $61.34 at Friday's close.

Turkey's benchmark stock index recorded a 3.16 percent weekly increase to close at 111,292.78 points on Friday, compared with the close at 107,884.03 points previous week's end.
