Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts week looking up

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index surged 0.25%, or 296.43 points, to start the week at 119,463.50 points on Monday.

At Friday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index slipped 0.59% to 119,140.08 points with a daily trading volume of 14.5 billion Turkish liras (nearly $2.4 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.9860 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Monday, versus 5.9850 at last week's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 6.6360, versus 6.6150, and one British pound traded for 7.8960 Turkish liras, while it was 7.8780 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $56.31 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Monday.
