Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts day on rise

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 0.57 percent or 495.17 points to open at 87,894.19 points on Friday.

On Thursday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 1.65 percent to close the day at 87,399.02 points with a daily trading volume of 5.06 billion lira ($932.13 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 5.4520 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared with Thursday's closing rate of 5.5040.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also decreased to 6.2090, versus 6.2500 at the last close. One British pound traded for 6.9030 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 6.9250 by market close on Thursday.

The price of Brent oil rose to $56.46 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Monday, versus $55.09 on Thursday's closing.
