Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul flat at opening

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark index started the day with a 131.88-point decrease to open at 88,833.26 on Wednesday.

During the first transactions of the day, the BIST 100 index fell by 0.15 percent while the banking and holding sector indexes declined by 0.30 and 0.11 percent, respectively.

Among all sectors, the sports index was the best performer — 0.37 percent — while the leasing and factoring sector started the day with the largest decline, falling 0.51 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate decreased to 3.6160 at 10.25 a.m. local time (0725GMT) on Wednesday, compared with 3.6290 at Tuesday’s close.

Gold held at $1,233.78 an ounce.
