Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at opening session

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's stock exchange dropped 0.64 percent, or 601.29 points, to open at 94,080.42 points Tuesday.

The banking and holding sector indices fell 1.25 percent and 0.40 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices, the leasing factoring sector index posted the best performance, up 0.17 percent, while the transportation sector was the worst, down 1.33 percent.

On Monday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 94,681.70, down 1.84 percent or 1,772.86 points, with a trading volume of 6.2 billion liras (nearly $1.1 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate increased to 5.7280 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Tuesday. It was 5.6790 at Monday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate was also rose to 6.5680 by market open — from 6.5210 at the previous close — and one British pound traded for 7.4390 Turkish liras over 7.3780 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil dropped to $79.26 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Tuesday, compared to $79.61 on Monday.
