Turkey's benchmark stock index up at midweek open

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index opened Wednesday up at 291.64 points, with a rise of 0.32 percent or 91,121.22 points.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 0.76 percent to close the day at 90,829.57 points with a daily trading volume of 1.5 billion Turkish liras ($360 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 5.2980 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), versus 5.2920 at Tuesday's closing.

The euro/lira rate was 6.0470, versus 6.0460 at the last close. One British pound traded for 6.7460 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 6.7250 by market close on Tuesday.

The price of Brent oil was $50.67 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Wednesday.
