MARDIN, Turkey (AA) – A YPG/PKK terrorist surrendered to Turkish security forces in the southeastern province of Mardin, according to security sources on Sunday.

The terrorist laid down arms after joint persuasion efforts by the former's family, and Mardin and Hakkari police.

The terrorist, operating in Syria, came to Mardin’s border district Nusaybin on Saturday, and gave in, the sources said.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and EU — has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children and infants. The YPG is its Syrian offshoot.
