Turkey: Two soldiers martyred in terror attack

ANKARA (AA) – At least two soldiers have been martyred in a PKK terror attack on Monday in the Semdinli district of Turkey’s southeastern Hakkari province, Turkey’s General Staff announced on Tuesday.

According to an official written statement on the Turkish Armed Forces’ website, the soldiers were martyred when a group of PKK terrorists attacked a Habesti military base on Monday with rockets and long-barreled weapons.

The statement added that five PKK terrorists were killed as Turkish forces retaliated.

The Turkish General Staff offered condolences to the families of the martyred soldiers.

PKK – seen as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, over 400 members of the security forces including troops, police officers and village guards have been martyred and more than 3,700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
