ANKARA (AA) – The death toll among Daesh terrorists shelled by Turkish forces overnight has risen to 64 from 50, military sources have said.
Turkey fired on Daesh positions across the border in Syria following renewed rocket fire on Monday night which hit the Turkish frontier city of Kilis.
Last night’s cross-border rocket attack inside Turkey killed 18-year-old Syrian national Nur Dervis. Fellow Syrian Emine Asseni, 36, and Turkish national Mustafa Mutluer, 31, were wounded and taken to Kilis State Hospital.
In response to the border attack, Turkish forces hit Daesh gun emplacements and ammunition dumps in Suran, Arshak, Ikdakh and Ihtimalat regions on the Syrian side of the border in retaliation, initially killing 50 Daesh terrorists.
The attack also wounded an unspecified number of Daesh militants, the source, speaking on condition of anonymity, added.
Another projectile, allegedly fired from Syria, injured one person in Kilis on Tuesday morning. The victim has been rushed to Kilis State Hospital.
Monday night’s death follows similar attacks on Sunday, when eight people were injured after four rockets landed in the same area, prompting a return of fire across the border by the Turkish military.
Kilis lies six kilometers (four miles) from the Syrian border.
Turkey has been under indiscriminate rocket attack from inside Syria since mid-January. In Kilis province alone, a total of 20 people have been killed and 60 others have been wounded as a result.
