Turkey sends condolences to India over deadly floods

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's Foreign Ministry offered condolences to the families of those killed in floods in southern India on Wednesday.

“We learned with sorrow that monsoon-related floods in India caused the loss of many lives and injuries, ” the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives and to the people and Government of India and wish speedy recovery to the injured, ” read the statement.

At least 45 people were killed in unprecedented floods and landslides in the Indian state of Kerala, according to the state’s disaster management officials on Wednesday.

The state government has announced temporary closure of its international airport in Kochi city as the authority has issued alert in 12 out of the total 14 districts of the state.

Thousands of people are homeless because of the floods.

On Aug. 12, the Kerala's Chief Minister Office said in its preliminary assessment that nearly 20,000 houses have been completely damaged.
