Turkey seeks to be leading country in digital tech

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey will be one of the leading countries in the world which is using and developing digital technologies, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday.

With collaboration from the Presidential Digital Transformation Office, universities and the private sector, Turkey wants to start an extensive digital technology program, he said, in his speech at a ceremony to mark the new academic year of higher education at the Bestepe National Congress and Culture Center.

“We want to be one of the leading countries of the world in terms of using and developing digital technologies. We are determined about this, ” he said.

In that way, Turkey can really improve its quality of economy and social welfare, he added.

“To reach this goal, the government will support projects that will increase the competitive power and productivity, ” Erdogan said.

Highlighting the importance of digital technologies, Erdogan added a country, which lags behind in technology, cannot achieve progress in science and industry.

He also noted his government would continue giving priority to the education sector, adding that every university in the country will have career guidance centers for students.

The government will also increase scholarships for university students, he said.
