ANKARA (AA) – Turkish security forces on Wednesday nabbed two suspected members of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) – the group behind the defeated 2016 coup attempt – who were trying to illegally cross into Greece.

The National Defense Ministry said on Twitter that the two were caught by border police in Ipsala in the northwestern Edirne province, near the Greek border.

The ministry added that the individuals were later identified as members of the FETO terror group.

FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and 2,734 injured.

Turkey also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
