Turkey: Italian priest's killer injured in armed attack

MUGLA, Turkey (AA) – The killer of an Italian priest and his brother on Tuesday were injured in an armed attack in western Turkey.

Oguzhan Akdin was sentenced to 18 years and 10 months of jail after killing Santa Maria Church priest Andrea Santoro on Feb. 5, 2006 in the Black Sea province of Trabzon, but was freed in 2016.

Akdin and his brother Alparslan Akdin came under attack at the resort city of Bodrum in Mugla province.

As the brothers were rushed to a private hospital, it was learned that Alparslan Akdin remains in critical condition, according to hospital sources.

Bodrum police continues its search for the assailants.

In 2017, Alparslan Akdin was also arrested for injuring a person with a gun in Bodrum and was later released.
