Turkey congratulates Tajikistan for holding elections

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey welcomed on Wednesday the recently held elections of the Assembly of Representatives in Tajikistan.

The People’s Democratic Party received 50.4% votes in the polls.

“We wish that the elections held on March 1 will be favorable for our friend Tajikistan,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The communique congratulated President Emomali Rahmon and the ruling People’s Democratic Party for their success.

“We are pleased that the elections were held peacefully all over the country and with a high participation rate of 86.4%,” it added.

Tajikistan is governed by a presidential system and parliament consists the Assembly of the Representatives and the National Assembly.

The lower house of the Tajikistan parliament has 63 members, whereas the the upper house comprises 33 members.

National Assembly members will be chosen in an election on the 27th of this month.
