Turkey: 96,562 vehicles registered in July

ANKARA (AA) – The number of vehicles registered in Turkey slipped nearly 25 percent year-on-year in July, reaching 96,562, according to the country's statistics authority on Tuesday.

The total number of vehicles registered in Turkey was over 22.7 million, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said in a statement.

In July, automobiles accounted for most new registrations — 58.2 percent — while motorcycles accounted for 21.8 percent. Small tracks were third on 13 percent.

In terms of distribution of model brands for new registered cars in the month: 17.9 percent were Renault; 9 percent Volkswagen; 8.2 percent Hyundai; 8 percent Fiat; 6.6 percent Dacia; 6.3 percent Toyota; 5.3 percent Peugeot; 5.2 percent Ford; 5.1 percent Honda; and 4.6 percent Opel.

Other brands accounted for 23.6 percent.

In the first seven months of the year, the number of registered motor vehicles also dropped by 13.2 percent compared to the same period last year, to 633,478, TurkStat added.

Meanwhile Turkey’s car and light commercial vehicle sales in the Jan.-July period fell 16 percent compared to the same period in 2017, the Automotive Distributors' Association (ODD) revealed on Aug. 2.

A total of 406,082 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in the first seven months of 2018, down from 483,455 in the same period last year, according to a report from the association.
