ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s first lady on Monday met with a group of Turkish healthcare and social service workers to mark March 8, International Women’s Day.

“We should further increase our cooperation to eliminate the epidemic of violence seen all over the world,” Emine Erdogan said during a dinner for the occasion at the presidential complex in the capital Ankara.

The first lady said that only full unity against violence can solve this problem.

“We want women to be involved not only as employees but also in designing and decision-making mechanisms,” she said. “Turkey's power is the power of women.”

Praising the work of Turkish healthcare workers during the fight against COVID-19, Erdogan said: “The heroic stories written on this front will set an example for future generations.”

Some 58% of the healthcare workers exposed to the epidemic are women, she said.
