TUNIS (AA) – Two militants were killed in a security raid carried out near the Tunisian capital Wednesday, the Interior Ministry has said.
In a statement, the ministry said 16 other militants had been arrested — and a weapons cache seized — during a raid on a house in the Ariana province outside capital Tunis.
According to the ministry, the security operation is still ongoing.
Eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency that security forces raided a house in Ariana’s Mnihla district at about 9am local time.
According to the witnesses, two militants were killed and another injured in the raid.
Since 2011, Tunisia has been battling a wave of militancy, which has left scores of people dead.
In March, At least 45 people were killed in deadly clashes between Tunisian security forces and militants in the eastern town of Ben Guerdane near the border with war-torn Libya.
