ISTANBUL (AA) – TRT World announced on Friday that it had joined the U.K.'s subscription-free satellite TV platform which has access to over 2 million viewers.

In a statement, TRT World said that it would be one of 200 channels offered on Freesat UK.

Murat Akguc, the general manager of Turkey's first international English-language news channel, said the agreement was made in line with the objective to reach a global audience.

He added the platform was the world's fastest growing international news network, thanks to deals reached with various entities, whether television platforms, airlines or hotels, allowing it to be broadcast in 190 countries.

Freesat Managing Director Alistair Thom said he was pleased that TRT World was joining the satellite service, and expressed his hope that it would be a long-term partnership.

Freesat is a free-to-air digital satellite television established jointly by the BBC and ITV plc in 2008. Other news channels such as Al Jazeera and CNN are also on Freesat.

TRT World, the headquarters of which is located in Istanbul, was launched in 2015.
