Trio arrested with loaded guns, ammunition outside NYC

NEW YORK (AA) – Three people were arrested Tuesday after police found a weapons cache inside their car as they headed for New York City, authorities said.

Two men in their fifties and a woman in her twenties, were stopped because of a cracked windshield on their pickup truck as they were about to enter the Holland Tunnel in New Jersey, media reports quoted police as saying.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers found rifles, loaded handguns and ammunition.

Police said the suspects, who unnamed sources in the press said were white, were coming from Pennsylvania.

The city’s counter-terrorism unit tweeted that it is monitoring the situation.

But the New York Daily News quoted a spokesman for the Port Authority — the agency that oversees bridges and tunnels connecting New Jersey and the city — that said department police do not believe the incident was terror-related.
