ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's foreign minister on Friday marked Qatar's National Day.

"I sincerely congratulate the friendly and brotherly people of Qatar on their National Day and independence," Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Twitter.

"We are committed to further develop Turkey-Qatar cooperation which significantly contributes to the prosperity, security and stability in our region," added Cavusoglu.

This year Qatar celebrates its National Day amid progress made toward the solution of the Gulf crisis under Kuwait's mediation.

The country was listed among the safest countries in the world by Numbeo, the world's largest database, in its 2019 crime index.

The Qatar Central Bank on this occasion issued new currency notes marking the fifth edition of the Qatari riyal.

Qatar is also preparing to host the 2020 football World Cup as well as the 2030 Asian Games.
