ALEPPO, Syria (AA) – Syrian opposition repelled Thursday Bashar al-Assad regime forces that reportedly violated a cease-fire, which started late Wednesday, according to local sources.
Local sources told Anadolu Agency that regime forces attacked the western part of Khan Tuman in southern Aleppo.
Opposition forces, fighting under the umbrella of Jaysh al-Fatah, destroyed two tanks and an armored vehicle repelling the attack.
In the clashes, they took control of the village of al-Khalidiya and a local factory in the area, sources added, adding they had also attacked a regime building and killed 10 soldiers. They also captured a Shia Afghan militant who was fighting for the regime.
Scores were killed including civilians when a regime helicopter dropped a barrel bomb on the village on Thursday.
Jund al-Aqsa, another opposition group, provided support for the al-Fatah Army in Khan Tuman.
The U.S. and Russia agreed last Friday to reinforce a short-term cease-fire for several cities in Syria, where attacks against civilians have increased recently.
Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011, when the regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests.
