ALEPPO, Syria (AA) – Sixty Syrian regime soldiers were killed by opposition forces Friday in a battle to take two villages in southwest Aleppo province, local sources said.

The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity due to safety concerns, said Jaish al-Fatah fighters captured another 11 troops as the opposition took villages near the town of Khan Tuman.

Jaish al-Fatah is an umbrella for various fighting groups including Ahrar al-Sham and al-Nusra Front, al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria.

Several factions are fighting around Aleppo and the territory towards the Turkish border as Syria’s five-year civil war shows little sign of easing.
