DAKAR, Senegal (AA) – At least nine people were killed in simultaneous suicide attacks in southeastern Nigeria late Monday, according to Tuesday’s local media reports.

The suicide bombings took place in southeastern Diffa city near the border with Nigeria.

According to an official, one of the attacks targeted those taking a Quran course.

Boko Haram armed group was blamed for the attack.

Boko Haram has recently stepped up attacks on communities, including suicide bombings in the northeast.

Over 2 million people have been displaced and close to 20,000 killed in the violent campaign that started in 2009.
