S&P 500, Nasdaq kick off week with new records

ANKARA (AA) – Two of the major US indexes kicked off the week with new records as stocks mostly opened higher on Monday.

The S&P 500 increased was up 4 points, or 0.1%, at 4,284 at 9.42 a.m. EDT (1342GMT). The Nasdaq soared 98 points, or 0.7%, to 14,457. Both indexes hit their all-time highs.

The Dow Jones, on the other hand, was down 156 points, or 0.4%, to 34,278.

Tech firms Intel, Tesla, Microsoft and Netflix added more than 1% each.

The dollar index was slightly up by less than 0.1% to 91.91 shortly after the first bell. The yield on the 10-year US Treasury was down 2.3% to 1.500%.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, increased 3.1% to 16.11

Precious metals were flat as gold was at $1,781 per ounce and silver was at $26.1 at the time.
