Soldier, village guards martyred in SE Turkey

ANKARA (AA) – A soldier and two village guards were martyred in a bomb attack carried out by PKK terrorists in Turkey’s southeastern province of Mardin, the military said Thursday.

In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said PKK terrorists attacked Anitli Gendarmerie Command Headquarters in Midyat district Wednesday with a bomb-laden vehicle.

Two other soldiers were injured — one seriously — during the attack.

The PKK — listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S., and the EU — resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, more than 480 security personnel, including troops, police officers and village guards, have been martyred and over 4,900 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
