Soldier, police officer martyred in SE Turkey

ANKARA (AA) – A Turkish soldier and a police officer were martyred by the terrorist PKK group in Turkey’s southeastern Hakkari and Diyarbakir provinces on Thursday, security sources have said.

The soldier died when a roadside bomb exploded in the Semdinli district of Hakkari province, the Turkish General Staff said in a Friday statement.

Another PKK attack in southeastern Diyarbakir fatally wounded a police officer the same day. The officer died in Gulhane Military Hospital in the capital, Ankara.

PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, more than 450 members of the security forces, including soldiers, police officers and village guards have been martyred and over 4,500 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
