HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) – A soldier was martyred Saturday during an anti-terror operation in Turkey’s southeastern province of Hakkari, security sources said.
Speaking on condition of anonymity due to the restrictions on speaking to media, security sources said the soldier was martyred early Saturday morning in clashes between members of the PKK terrorist organization and security forces in the village of Daglica, which is located close to the Iraqi border.
The operation is still ongoing, security sources said.
The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
Since then, more than 440 members of the security forces, including troops, police officers, and village guards, have been martyred, and over 4,500 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
