Siachen: The third pole

ANKARA (AA) – The Siachen Glacier, known as the world's highest battlefield, is located in the eastern Karakoram mountain range in the Himalayas, huddled next to the borders of Pakistan, India, and China.

In September 2019, Anadolu Agency sent a team, the first-ever international media outlet to visit the area, to several sectors of the glacier. They stayed there to observe how troops spend days and nights in such a harsh environment.

They visited Pakistan Army’s International Hiking and Altitude Expedition Camp (IHEC) and Concordia posts in the Baltoro Glacier sector.

The region includes the world's second-longest glaciers, stretching an impressive 76 kilometers (47 miles).

South Asian arch-rivals Pakistan and India both claim sovereignty over the entire Siachen region.

And now, Anadolu Agency explores the reasons behind the stand-off in a short documentary film.
