BUCHAREST, Romania (AA) – The center-left Social Democratic Party (PSD) in Romania won last Sunday’s national elections, the country’s electoral board announced on Thursday.

According to final results from the Romania Central Electoral Bureau, the PSD will have 154 deputies and 67 senators in the 465-seat assembly.

The center-right National Liberal Party will have 69 deputies and 30 senators in the parliament.

The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) will have 20 deputies and nine senators.

Some 8.8 million people were eligible to vote across the country to elect members of parliament after a temporary Cabinet of technocrats ran the country for over a year.

A total of 329 deputies and 136 senators were elected for the new term.

The former PSD government had resigned a few days after a fire killed 64 people in October 2015.
