BUCHAREST, Romania (AA) – Hundreds of Romanian government lawmakers tabled a motion of censure against their own premier for the first time in the country’s history on Sunday.

The motion was signed by 223 members of parliament. The Social Democratic Party (PSD) and its Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) coalition partners withdrew support from Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu earlier this week.

Grindeanu has only been in office six months. He was accused of failing to implement PSD policies and had lost the confidence of lawmakers, PSD leader Liviu Dragnea said on Wednesday.

The motion will be voted upon by parliament on Wednesday.
