Qatar’s emir meets UN General Assembly head

ANKARA (AA) – Volkan Bozkir, the Turkish diplomat currently heading the UN General Assembly, met Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on Thursday as part of an official visit to the Qatari capital, according to media reports.

Al-Thani and Bozkir discussed international and regional issues, as well as joint efforts to combat the coronavirus outbreak, said Qatar’s state news agency QNA.

The meeting in Doha dealt with enhancing bilateral cooperation between Qatar and the UN in various fields, including development, humanitarian aid, and education.

“We discussed the importance of multilateralism, fight against COVID19, focus on the vulnerable countries & climate change,” Bozkir said on Twitter.

He said he thanked al-Thani for “Qatar’s strong support and active role in the work of UN General Assembly as well as for his country’s leadership on humanitarian issues.”

Bozkir arrived late Wednesday to have meetings with authorities after he paid his first visit to Turkey as the president of the 75th UN General Assembly on Tuesday.
