SOFIA, Bulgaria (AA) – Protests were held on Sunday in Bulgaria’s capital and other major cities against the current government and low standards of living in the country.

Demonstrators blocked major roads and surrounded border gates opening to Turkey, as well as to Romania and Serbia, causing congestion stretching for kilometers.

The government deployed widespread restrictive measures and more than 4,000 security force personnel against the protests, which were also held outside the parliament and other government buildings.

Protestors said the demonstrations, which have been held every weekend for about the last month, would continue.
