Police officer martyred in southeast Turkey

SIRNAK, Turkey (AA) – A police officer was martyred by PKK terrorists in the southeastern city of Sirnak on Wednesday, a security source said.

The officer was shot during a counter-terrorism operation in the provincial capital, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media. He later died in hospital.

More than 430 members of the security forces have been martyred since the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July. In that period, more than 3,800 PKK terrorists have been killed.
