SIIRT, Turkey (AA) – PKK terrorists attacked a vehicle in southeastern Turkey on Monday, martyring at least one Turkish soldier and injuring two others, provincial governor said.

The incident took place when the terrorists opened fire at a vehicle after it left a military base in Siirt’s Cukurca district, Governor Ali Fuat Atik told Anadolu Agency as he visited injured soldier and a security guard at a hospital.

He said the attack will not deter the country’s resolve to fight terrorists.

The PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.

Separately, at least six PKK terrorists, five of them on Monday, were killed in air-backed operations in southeastern Sirnak province, according to Turkish army’s statement.

The Turkish interior ministry also released a statement, revealing details of operations conducted over the past week.

The statement said 26 terrorists were killed and 14 others surrendered to security forces. Three terrorists were also captured.

Moreover, 1,108 suspects were arrested for aiding or having links to PKK, Daesh and Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) in 119 operations carried out from July 17 to 24.

FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 250 people martyred and some 2,200 injured.
