RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – A Palestinian man has succumbed to wounds he sustained due to Israeli gunfire in the occupied West Bank last week, according to his brother.

Mohamed Anbar, 46, was shot and injured by Israeli soldiers near a military checkpoint in the city of Tulkarm last week.

“He died of his wounds at the hospital today,” his brother Khalil Anbar told Anadolu Agency on Sunday.

He said his brother had been detained by Israeli forces after being shot at the checkpoint.

Tension has grown across the Palestinian territories since Dec. 6 when U.S. President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The situation escalated last week when two dozen Palestinians were killed and hundreds injured by Israeli gunfire during anti-occupation rallies on border of the Gaza Strip.
