KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) – A Pakistani court on Thursday ordered the release of opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif granting him bail in two corruption cases, court records and local media reported.

A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court accepted the bail application of three-time chief minister of the country's largest province Punjab in two cases related to a housing scam and holding assets beyond known income sources, local broadcaster Geo News reported.

Shehbaz Sharif, the younger brother of the jailed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, was arrested last October by authorities for his alleged involvement in the graft cases.

Shehbaz Sharif, head of main opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party, is accused of canceling a housing contract and transferring it to his favorite company for the construction of low-cost houses for the poor in Punjab.

He denies the allegations saying he canceled the contract because it was granted to a blacklisted company.

The elder Sharif is currently serving a 7-year jail term in a corruption case.
