VAN, Turkey (AA) – At least 136 irregular migrants were held across Turkey, security sources said on Tuesday.

In eastern Van province, 98 migrants — including Afghan, Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals — were rounded up during patrols by the provincial gendarmerie command teams, said a security source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

They were referred to the provincial migration office.

Also, in northwestern Edirne province, teams of the gendarmerie command held 12 irregular migrants, who were travelling in two vehicles in Meric district, another security source said.

The migrants that include Iraqi and Palestinian nationals were referred to the provincial migration office, the source added.

Separately, in southern Hatay province’s Altinozu district, 26 Syrian nationals were held as they tried to illegally enter Turkey.
