One soldier martyred in Turkey’s southeast

ANKARA (AA) – A soldier was martyred in an attack by PKK terrorists in the southeastern Mardin province’s Nusaybin district, Anadolu Agency correspondents reported.

During ongoing military operations against PKK terrorists, a soldier was severely wounded and later succumbed to his wounds in hospital on Monday.

The Turkish General Staff said in a statement on their website that a terrorist was killed during the Atmaca-7 operation, which the Turkish Armed Forces and security forces initiated in order to destroy homemade bombs, fill in trenches dug by the terrorist PKK, and restore public order.

The military also said that from mid-March until today, a total of 345 terrorists were killed in Nusaybin during operations and 925 homemade bombs were destroyed.

During the operations, a total of 1,579 residents were also evacuated to safe places, the military added.

The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, more than 450 members of the security forces, including troops, police officers, and village guards, have been martyred, and over 4,500 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
