Oman, UAE report new virus deaths

ANKARA (AA) – Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) confirmed additional fatalities due to the coronavirus pandemic on Sunday.

The Omani Health Ministry said ten people had died from COVID-19, while 1,157 others contracted the disease over the past 24 hours.

The country’s count now rose to 66,661 cases, including 318 deaths, and 44,004 recoveries.

In the UAE, the Health Ministry reported one fatality and 211 new cases, taking the overall figure to 56,922 cases, including 339 deaths, and 49,269 recoveries.

Since first appearing in China last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 188 countries and regions. The US, Brazil, India and Russia are currently the countries hardest hit in the world.

The pandemic has killed over 605,000 people worldwide, with almost 14.4 million confirmed cases, according to figures compiled by US’ Johns Hopkins University. Over 8 million people have recovered from the disease.
