Oman records highest daily virus count since outbreak

MUSCAT (AA) – Oman recorded 14 fatalities from coronavirus on Tuesday, the highest daily death toll since the pandemic hit the Gulf state in mid-February, according to the Health Ministry.

A ministry statement said a further 1,389 new infections were registered over the past 24 hours, pushing the nationwide tally to 59,568 cases, including 273 deaths.

In May, the Omani authorities ease a lockdown imposed to stem the spread of the pandemic in the country.

Across the world, the virus has claimed more than 573,000 lives in at least 188 countries and regions since emerging in China last December.

Over 13.1 million cases have been reported worldwide, with the US, Brazil, India, and Russia currently the hardest-hit countries, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.

The data shows more than half of all patients worldwide have recovered so far.
