BAKU, Azerbaijan (AA) – Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasia and Central Asia on Tuesday.
– Ukraine
A total of 833 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Ukraine over the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 38,074.
Ukraine's Health Minister Maxym Stepanov said 23 more fatalities have pushed the death toll up to 1,035, while recoveries reached 16,956 with 314 additions.
Ukraine recently extended restrictions until July 31 and has also tightened measures in some regions to stem the spread of the virus.
– Kazakhstan
In Kazakhstan, 499 new cases over the past day brought the total to 18,231, according to the Health Ministry.
Recoveries increased by 196 to 11,158, while seven new fatalities raised the death toll to 127.
The number of asymptomatic COVID-19 cases not included in the overall count rose by 816 to 10,625, the ministry said.
– Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan’s total case count reached 3,519 after 163 more people tested positive for COVID-19 over the past day.
The number includes 2,054 recoveries and 41 deaths, the Health Ministry said.
It said 817 people who tested positive without any symptoms were isolated at home, while 607 patients were being treated in hospitals.
To date, 604 health care professionals have been infected in the country, with 389 having successfully recovered, the ministry added.
A ban on public events and international flights continues in Kyrgyzstan.
– Uzbekistan
The number of virus cases in Uzbekistan increased by 99 to 6,500, according to the country's Health Ministry.
Recoveries rose by 76 to reach 4,450, while the death toll stands at 19, it said.
The Central Asian country has carried out 850,000 tests so far, with 53,000 people under surveillance and 2,031 patients under treatment, the ministry said.
– Georgia
In Georgia, three new COVID-19 cases brought the total to 914, including 14 deaths and 768 recoveries.
Some 255 people in the country are under surveillance in hospitals, while 2,662 people are in quarantine, authorities said.
– Armenia
Armenia’s case count passed 21,000 after 418 people tested positive over the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said.
The total number of 21,006 includes 372 deaths, which increased by 12 since Monday, and 10,144 recoveries.
The country has conducted 98,177 tests to date and 10,364 patients remain under treatment.
– Global situation
More than 9.11 million COVID-19 cases have been reported in 188 countries and regions since the virus emerged in China last December.
The US, Russia, Brazil, and India are currently the hardest-hit countries in the world.
The pandemic has claimed more than 472,500 lives worldwide, while recoveries are over 4.54 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
