GAZA, Palestine (AA) – Nine Palestinians were injured on Sunday during protests against U.S. President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.
Among the injured, one was in critical condition from a real bullet fired from Israeli soldiers, the Palestinian health ministry spokesperson Ashraf Al-Kudra told Anadolu Agency.
The Palestinian Red Crescent also said in a written statement that 57 people were affected by tear gas during the protests in the West Bank.
Since the U.S. move on Jerusalem, eight Palestinians have been martyred during several protests across the country and Israeli air campaigns against civilian positions in the Gaza city.
Al-Kudra also said that at least 535 people including 47 children have been injured since the protests erupted and 14 ambulances were damaged by the Israeli gun fires.
During the protests, some Israeli soldiers reportedly used real bullets on Palestinian people.
– Trump's definition 'invalid'
The Grand Mufti of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Sheikh Mohammed Ahmed Husain addressed a joint TV program on Sunday that aired live on Egyptian, Palestinian and Jordanian channels promoted their reactions to the U.S. move.
Saying that Trump's definition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is “invalid and unacceptable, ” the mufti added: “This will not change anything from the situation of Jerusalem. ”
Meanwhile, the President of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party Abdul Hadi Awang issued a statement urging Muslims to be careful while showing reactions to Trump's decision.
Awang said that reactions of the Muslim community is against to Trump, not the U.S. citizens.
“We know that not all of the people of the United States are in the same opinion as Trump. For this reason, our good relations with non-Muslim societies are important for Islamic communication, ” he added.
Trump's decision on Dec. 6 triggered demonstrations around the world including in the occupied Palestinian territories, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq and other Muslim countries.
Jerusalem remains at the heart of the Israel-Palestine conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem — now occupied by Israel — might eventually serve as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
