Nigerian top judge charged with false asset declaration

By Rafiu Ajakaye</p> <p>LAGOS Nigeria (AA) – Nigeria's chief justice has been charged for declaring false assets details, an official statement said on Saturday.</p> <p>The statement issued by anti-corruption agency Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) said Walter Onnoghen will be arraigned on Monday on a six-count charge which has been filed at the code of conduct tribunal.</p> <p>Daily Trust, a local daily, reported that the government accuses the chief justice of declaring false assets details and operating domiciliary foreign currency account.</p> <p>No serving chief justice has ever been charged while in office. In 2015, the Code of Conduct Bureau charged a sitting senate president for corruption, however, he was later discharged by the supreme court.
