Nigeria: 10 killed as Boko Haram storms military base

By Adam Abu Bashal </p> <p>ABUJA, Nigeria (AA) – At least 10 people were killed and several others injured when Boko Haram militants attacked a military base in Nigeria’s northeastern state of Borno on Monday, local media reported on Tuesday.</p> <p>According to a report by Daily Trust, the militant group also set fire to civilian houses.</p> <p>The attack was followed by a clash between the militant group and the military. </p> <p>Nigeria has been battling Boko Haram insurgency since 2009 when the group turned violent following the death of its former leader Mohamed Yusuf in police custody. </p> <p>More than 20,000 people have been killed, mostly civilians, while 2-3 million have been displaced from their homes across the Lake Chad region. </p> <p>Currently, Boko Haram has allegedly split into two factions being led by Abubakar Shekau and Abu Musab al-Barnawi.
